Responsibilities

We are looking for an experienced Senior BI Engineer to play a critical role covering product innovation and data integrity. You will split your expertise between enhancing the  JobAdder Analytics Product (Looker/Python/SQL) and supporting our Internal Business  Intelligence ecosystem (Tableau/DWH Strategy). Most importantly, you will own the "Single Source of Truth," ensuring every KPI across the company is documented, governed, and technically sound.

1. Product Engineering

  • Full accountability for the LookML codebase, including expert-level query performance tuning and optimization within Looker-specific constraints
  • End-to-end responsibility for SQL and Python scripts. This includes navigating SQL Server environments to manage the tables and views that power Looker models.
  • Rigorous peer code reviews in GitHub to maintain high-quality standards.
  • Balance "Business as Usual" (BAU) support and troubleshooting with the development of long-term product features and releases.
  • Partner closely with Engineering to ensure seamless product deployments and feature rollouts.
  • Translate complex data logic into clear, actionable answers for non-technical stakeholders and act as a technical escalation point for client queries.
  • Work synchronously with Database Analyst, Cloud Engineering, Engineering, and Product teams to ensure technical alignment and operational excellence.
  • Lead upskilling sessions and maintain a "positive mindset" toward documentation, ensuring the team remains scalable and well-informed.
  • A drive to master emerging technologies and keep pace with industry trends.
  • Meticulous approach to data validation, code integrity, and documentation.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning within the team.

2. BI Delivery & DWH Strategy

  • End-to-End Reporting: Gather stakeholder requirements, guide DWH developers on table structures, and implement polished visualizations in Tableau.
  • Architect’s Partner: Define functional requirements for the Data Warehouse. While you won’t build the pipelines, you will guide Star Schema design to ensure optimization for high-performance reporting.
  • Metrics Governance: Take full ownership of the JobAdder "Metric Store." Lead the sign-off process to ensure definitions are consistent across all departments.
  • Root-Cause Investigation: Use advanced SQL profiling to perform deep-dive audits and investigate why "the numbers don't look right," bridging the gap between business expectations and raw data.
  • Documentation & KT: Maintain rigorous documentation for governed metrics. You believe a dashboard is only as good as the metadata behind it.

Qualifications

  • Advanced SQL & Python: Mastery of SQL for data profiling and auditing; proficiency in Python for data manipulation and automation.
  •  Business Intelligence Power User:
o Tableau: Expert level (LODs, parameters, performance optimization) for internal reporting.
o Looker (Preferred): Strong LookML expertise for governed, client-facing self-service reporting.
  • DWH Literacy: Deep understanding of Dimensional Modeling (Facts vs. Dimensions) and how to advocate for patterns that improve report usability.
  • AWS Knowledge (Good to have): Familiarity with the AWS data stack (Redshift, S3, Glue)
  • Data Science Foundation (Good to have): Familiarity with Data Science to support upcoming product features and internal business reporting models.
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills, with a focus on brevity and impact.
  • Seamlessly jump between high-level product feature work and internal BAU (Business as Usual) support tickets.
